People need proper skills and technology to participate in the digital economy. But today, millions of households don’t have access to broadband infrastructure, may face affordability challenges or lack the digital literacy that can connect them to well-paying jobs.

Funds from the Digital Equity Act – a provision of the IIJA that provides money for literacy, accessibility and equity initiatives – are set to be released early next year. Todd Sander is Vice President of the Center for Digital Government and Governing Institute. He previously served as the CIO of the Lower Colorado River Authority and as CIO/Assistant City Manager for the City of Tucson, AZ, and Deputy CIO for the State of Washington.
